Coconut oil: Natural Wart Removal

-

Need a sure but natural way of removing unsightly warts! Coconut oil: Natural Wart Removal is a proven remedy for the 2 most common types of warts.

Warts! They conjure pictures of toads, brewing pots and strange old ladies with pointy hats and noses! The reality though, is that they exist beyond the fairy tales, you can’t catch them from toads and many adults and children are subjected to them. There are many types of warts including plantar, genital and “regular” warts. Plantar warts are found mainly on feet and can be quite large in size, painful and more embedded into the sole of the foot. Regular warts are found on other parts of the body such as hands, fingers, face and other parts.

How do warts appear?

Warts come from a virus called HPV. There are more than 100 types of HPV. Warts often look like small solid blisters or little cauliflowers and are formed by the Keratin layer of your skin growing way too fast.

The virus can come into contact with your skin anytime and in any place. Your skin is more susceptible to warts if there are cuts or broken skin. One of the most prevalent places to contract the virus is from swimming pools, public bathrooms or wash areas. Best remedy for this is to always wear thongs or sandals around the pool and in the showers or bathrooms.

Warts if left alone can often scar the skin area affected and can multiply quickly after the infection starts, especially in children. If warts are picked, scratched or bumped they can cause quite a bit of pain and can also cause the virus to spread.

Treatments available

Do Nothing – most children grow out of the virus and small amounts of warts can be gone within 2 years. However if the outbreak is severe or repetitive it’s not a good idea to leave them alone.

Topical – over the counter treatments available usually all made with salicylic or lactic acid.

Liquid Nitrogen – Freezing the wart over several treatments usually performed by a doctor, however you can now buy DIY freezing treatments from pharmacies or drug stores.

Treating the immune system – Imiquimod cream triggers a response from the immune system to eliminate the wart.

Vaccination – Gardasil – especially for genital warts but as a prevention not necessarily for existing warts.

Laser Therapy – a laser is used to burn off the wart.

Immunotherapy – injecting a substance directly into the wart that will trigger an immune response.

Duct tape – hard to believe but by wrapping duct tape around or over a wart and leaving it for a certain amount of days. Read more here about duct tape usage.

Some of these treatments are very costly on both money and time, not to mention they can cause quite a bit of pain.

And then there is Coconut Oil!

Coconut oil: Natural Wart Removal

When I was a kid the only treatments that seemed to be available was this dreadful horrid green liquid that you would paint on the wart for weeks on end until eventually the wart would scab (ultimately die) and then fall off. The liquid would burn when it went on and the process of it scabbing and falling off was painful! It also caused scarring. Oh if only I knew about coconut oil back then!

Coconut oil is packed with MCFAs. Medium chain fatty acids are the good guys that are antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial. This is what makes Coconut Oil the perfect remedy for warts. Applied topically the MCFAs go about killing off the virus around the wart. Taken internally, coconut oil will kill off other bacterias that are weakening the immune system and rid your body of viruses. Used in Oil Pulling and coconut oil can act as a gentle detox and purge your body of bothersome fungi and other bacterias causing your system to chug along instead of charge on all levels.

How to use Coconut Oil for Natural Wart Removal

For some warts that are small and relatively soft, you can simply rub warm coconut oil into the wart and that should be enough. For other warts that are either large or have areas of tough callused skin you will need to follow the following steps.

What you need:

  • An emery board
  • Warm Coconut oil – unrefined and cold pressed
  • Hydrogen Peroxide 3%
  • Cotton tips or pads
  • A soft cotton bandage

What to do:

  1. Using the emery board, file the top of the wart down to expose the inside. If it’s a really large wart that is very raised you may also use a razor blade to cut the top off but be careful to not make it bleed or cut too deep.
  2. Dab a couple of drops of Hydrogen Peroxide to the wart and let it dry.
  3. Warm the coconut oil up either by placing your jar into a bowl or saucepan with very hot water or by using your microwave for about 15 seconds. If your coconut oil is solid you will need to allow more time for the oil to melt and heat. Rub and massage the warm coconut oil into the wart. The longer you massage the better. Repeat this up to 4 times a day, alternatively you could use a coconut oil bandage (see note) to cover the wart ensuring that the bandage is well oiled.

Note – A coconut oil bandage is a soft bandage, long enough to wrap around the affected area that has been soaked in warm coconut oil.

In as little as a week you will notice that the wart is starting to soften and shrink. Some of the larger warts will peel or begin to shed which aids removal.

I have treated both my children with this remedy and after trying many of the other treatments, I found coconut oil to be the most successful, the least invasive and the most economical both for time and money. And No Scars!

And for those readers who love essential oils check out this article. Essential oils make great topical treatments and are used in many remedies. I haven’t personally had experience with using them for warts but adding in some tea tree oil, lemon or lavender oil to the coconut oil might be ideal for those really stubborn warts.

A quick recap:

  1. Use coconut oil topically on the wart using the technique above.
  2. Take coconut oil orally (up to 3 tablespoons a day with food)
  3. Try oil pulling to gently detox the body and the immune system of bacteria build up.

How about you? Have you tried any of these treatments? Would you give coconut oil a go?

  1. I usually add about a tablespoon of coconut oil to my cup of coffee and drink a couple of cups a day. Good way to add it to your diet. The article left me wondering how long to expect a cure.

  2. Hello, Kerry:

Nice blog and very useful information.

I have a pretty small wart at the end of my neck
since some time ago. I didnt pay to much attention
to it, but now I realize that there are some new
“signals” of what could be future warts.
In fact, I have already noticed a couple of little
little spots around the original wart.

    How should I treat it?
Rub coconut oil just with my fingers over
the wart and around for a while every day
    until they disappear?

Would you, please, give an advice?

    Thank you very much.

    Jose

    • Hi Jose, If the warts are tiny then dab some Hydrogen Peroxide or Apple Cider Vinegar on them first. Wait for that to dry and then rub in some warm coconut oil. Repeat this process as often as you want. You should see them disappearing fairly soon. Remember it’s a good idea to eat the coconut oil as well. 3 tablespoons a day with food is a good start. Hope that helps 🙂 let me know how you get on.

      • Hi, Kerry:

Thank you very much for answering so quickly and helpfully.
I’ll do it as you say and let you know how it goes.

        Kind regards.
        Jose
