If you’re considering a juice fast to drop pounds fast, listen up. While strictly following a juicing program for more than a few days can promote a downward trend on the scale because you’re slashing your collective daily calories, you pay a price: Most plans leave gaping nutritional holes in your diet. The majority of the calories in these juice beverages come from carbs, including high amounts of natural sugar from fruits and some vegetables. That means almost all commercial juice plans are grossly inadequate in protein, a key nutrient that helps you feel full and energized while maintaining your lean muscle mass and boosting your metabolic burn. In fact, following a low-protein diet while simultaneously cutting calories causes you to lose a higher proportion of weight as muscle tissue (as opposed to fat), which puts the brakes on your metabolism and reduces strength. Ingredients
  • ½ an avocado
  • ½ cucumber, washed and diced
  • ½ lemon or lime, squeezed
  • ½ green apple, washed and diced
  • A handful of mint
  • A handful of continental parsley
  • Filtered water
  • Stevia to taste (optional)
  • Ice cubes (optional)
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients in blender and blitz until smooth.
  2. Add stevia to taste.
  3. Add ice cubes to serve.

  • ¼ cup Blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • ¼ cup Strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • ½ lemon, juiced
  • Filtered water
  • Ice to serve
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients except water n blender and blitz until smooth.
  2. Add a little filtered water to adjust consistency.
  3. Add ice cubes either to serve or blitz in the blender for a slushy experience.

 
Super Green C Slushy

Ingredients
  • ½ cucumber, washed and diced
  • 1 rib celery, washed and chopped
  • 1 handful of kale leaves, washed and torn into small pieces
  • ½ avocado
  • ½ grapefruit or 1 orange, juiced
  • A handful of parsley
  • A handful of mint
  • 1 cup of frozen or fresh mango pieces or to taste.
  • Ice to serve
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients except mango into blender and blitz until smooth.
  2. Add mango pieces in small amounts. Taste as you go, adding more if needed.
  3. Serve with ice cubs.

 
Protein Plus Green Smoothie
 
If you are looking for a meal replacement then this smoothie is the answer. The added protein will give you fullness and satisfaction right through until the next meal.

  • ½ cucumber, washed and chopped
  • 1 Rib of celery, washed and chopped
  • 1 handful of kale or spinach, washed and chopped
  • ½ avocado

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (Sun warrior or Raw) or 1 tablespoon chia seeds or flaxseeds.
  • ½ cup almond, rice or other non dairy milk
  • Ice cubes (optional)
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients except protein powder into blender and blitz until smooth.
  2. Add protein powder, chia or flax seeds and blend until combined.
  3. Add ice cubes (optional)

  • ¼ red Papaya - peeled and chopped
  • ¼ pink Grapefruit - peeled and chopped
  • ½ cup coconut water or coconut kefir
  • 1 tablespoon coconut milk or yogurt
  • Ice cubes (optional)
Instructions
  1. Blend all the ingredients except ice
  2. Add ice cubes and either blend again or leave as is
Notes
This recipe is high in fructose because of the coconut water - if you want to lower the fructose content than replace the coconut water with either water kefir or plain filtered water. It's still delish either way.

Raspberry Ginger Zinger

Ingredients
  • ¼ cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
  • ¼ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • A piece of fresh ginger about 4 cm grated (less if you don't like so much spice)
  • ½ of a fresh orange peeled and quartered (you could use lemon or grapefruit)
  • ½ cup coconut water (use filtered water if wanting to lower the fructose levels)
  • Ice cubes - if you are using fresh berries
Instructions
  1. In a blender or food processor blend all ingredients.
  2. Add more coconut or filtered water to get the perfect consistency
Notes
For a slightly thicker, creamier smoothie add ½ a chopped banana.
